Fueling Our Families with a Healthy Breakfast
By: Dr. Ian Smith, PCFSN Council member, Bestselling Author, and National Healthy Living Expert
As a physician and sports enthusiast it’s important to make sure I’m fueling my body with healthy, nutritious foods to stay fit and focused. It’s not only critical for me personally, but also as a dad. I want to make sure my kids grow up and develop their own healthy eating habits so they can lead long, active and productive lives. This all starts with breakfast. Each morning, my wife and I make sure to provide our kids with a healthy and tasty meal to start their day and give them the boost they need for an active day.

By: Dominique Dawes, PCFSN Co-Chair and Three-time Olympic Gymnast
At a very early age, I learned about the value of healthy eating. By the time I was 11 years old and training daily as a gymnast, I knew that eating right would help me achieve my goals. The goals I had for health, athletics, and academic performance were all tied to eating nutritious foods, and that started with breakfast. As an adult, I’ve maintained goals for fitness and health and that’s why I make sure to start each morning with a healthy breakfast.

Let’s Move! summer enrichment series at the U.S. Department of Education. The Olympic figure skater and member of the President’s Council on Fitness reminded them that it’s important to “practice, practice, practice.”
