Celebrating Fatherhood and Quality Family Time

In the spirit of Father’s Day during Men’s Health Week and in celebration of President Obama’s Fatherhood Initiative, some of us wrote messages to father or our own kid(s) about the impact they have in our lives. All of us seemed to agree on one essential truth: spending quality time with loved ones can have a positive and lasting impact on our health, happiness and well-being.

As a personal trainer, I’ve always placed a priority on maintaining an active, healthy lifestyle. And, when I became a father and then a grandfather, I knew that I owed it to myself and my family to dedicate extra attention to the way I treated my personal health. My wellbeing was not just about me anymore; it was about the loved ones who would count on me to be there as a father, grandfather, husband and best friend.
PCFSN Announces Expansion of I Can Do It, You Can Do It!

The President’s Council on Fitness, Sports and Nutrition announced phase two of the I Can Do It, You Can Do It! (ICDI) program at a Presidential Active Lifestyle Awards (PALA+) ceremony for more than 1,200 students with disabilities in Miami, Florida.
Whole of School Approach to Physical Activity

The Institute of Medicine (IOM) recently released a report entitled “Educating the Student Body: Taking Physical Activity and Physical Education to School.” With funding from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, the report committee was tasked with: 1) assessing the status of physical activity and physical education in schools; 2) reviewing the science behind the effects of physical activity on health, development and academic performance in youth; and 3) making recommendations appropriate with the scientific evidence.
