To create real change, Be Active North Carolina (BANC) will address the challenges of social, political, cultural, environmental, organizational and interpersonal influences that mold a person’s habits regarding physical activity. BANC will focus on three primary areas: People, Programs and Policies. BANC will reach people by increasing public awareness and media attention, building grassroots advocacy and an effective volunteer network. BANC will advocate for policies that will reduce barriers and create opportunities for physical activity. Finally, BANC will promote the following programs: Be Active Kids, an award winning program which teaches 4 and 5 year olds about nutrition, physical activity and food safety, Active Steps Youth Program, a pedometer based program that will motivate students, grades 1-12, to move more and encourage students to set activity goals, Active Steps, a walking program that utilizes a pedometer to motivate individuals of all ages to increase their level of physical activity, and the Active Blue Van, this specially designed van will appear at family and community events through the year promoting health and physical activity.
